QA Engineer with SQL/Database Testing

We’re looking for a highly engaged Quality Assurance Engineer with German to join one of our projects within a large‑scale telecommunications environment. The project aims to validate and ensure the quality of legacy applications as they are transformed into modern, scalable, and user‑centric web interfaces, delivering seamless digital experiences for millions of customers. This role offers the opportunity to work on a modern and technically complex project, where quality plays a key role in ensuring reliable and high‑performing solutions at scale. You will support the end-to-end testing of applications and ensure quality across the entire application flow, from UI and API interactions through to database validation. The role requires strong test automation experience, ideally with Playwright, as well as the ability to work with SQL to validate data and investigate application behavior at database level.

 
 
What you'll be doing
 

  • Design, develop and maintain automated end-to-end test scenarios for web applications.
  • Perform automated testing across UI and API layers.
  • Validate application behavior across the complete flow: UI/API → application/backend → database.
  • Use SQL queries to verify that data generated or modified through UI or API interactions is correctly persisted in the database.
  • Compare expected vs. actual results at database level.
  • Validate the outcome of transactions and API calls directly in the database.
  • Use SQL to identify, prepare and validate test data required for different testing scenarios.
  • Investigate defects and perform troubleshooting across UI, API and database layers.
  • Analyze test results, identify root causes of failures and document defects.
  • Collaborate with developers and other project stakeholders to ensure comprehensive test coverage.

 

What you'll bring along 

 

  • Degree in Computer Science, Business Informatics, or a comparable field
  • Hands-on experience developing and maintaining UI and REST API test automation using Playwright or Cypress
  • Experience in manual software testing, preferably within Agile environments (e.g., Scrum)
  • Solid knowledge of testing methodologies, test management, and QA documentation
  • Experience working with test management tools such as Jira and Xray
  • Experience writing and maintaining test specifications using Gherkin syntax
  • Understanding of BDD concepts (hands-on experience with Cucumber is a plus, not mandatory)
  • Strong analytical skills and high attention to detail
  • Basic understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC)
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) is an advantage
  • Good knowledge of SQL, particularly for:
    • querying and validating application data;
    • verifying transaction/API results;
    • comparing expected and actual data;
    • preparing and identifying test data;
    • troubleshooting application issues.
  • ISTQB certification is considered a plus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in German are mandatory for this role
  • Experience with PL/SQL and/or Oracle databases is nice to have
