We're looking for an experienced and motivated System Engineer to support the development of complex automotive systems and products. In this role, you will contribute to system definition, requirements management, architecture development, technical coordination, and product integration throughout the development lifecycle, from concept to production. You will work closely with cross-functional engineering teams and customers to ensure that technical requirements, system performance, safety, quality, and project objectives are successfully achieved. Please note that this position is available exclusively on a freelance/contractor basis. The role requires on-site presence at the client's location in Sibiu for approximately one week per month, with the remaining time worked remotely. Candidates should be comfortable with regular travel to Sibiu and close collaboration with the client's engineering and project teams during on-site activities. 

What you'll be doing

• Lead an interdisciplinary development team covering Software, Hardware and Mechanical Engineering for HMI, EAS & MD products.
• Act as the technical interface between the customer and the development team, ensuring clear communication and alignment.
• Coordinate project-specific technical resources and interfaces between Production and Development.
• Take overall responsibility for the technical management of automotive product development throughout the project lifecycle.
• Ensure the implementation of System Requirements and create the Product System Architecture.
• Drive technical decisions, internal communication and collaboration across all departments involved.
• Lead the team to ensure the complete functionality, quality and technical maturity of the developed products.
• Coordinate technical activities throughout the product lifecycle, including modifications, optimizations and corrective actions.
• Support the launch of new variants for series products from a development perspective.
• Contribute to development cost optimization through standard concepts, VA/VE, frontloading and other efficiency measures.
• Monitor and regularly update resources, schedules and budgets.
• Support the preparation of testing and assembly processes.

What you'll bring along

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.
• Experience in technical project management, preferably within the automotive industry.
• Strong understanding of automotive development processes, tools and methodologies.
• Experience with Project Management, Timing and Requirements Engineering tools.
• Strong technical expertise and the ability to understand complex interdisciplinary systems.
• Proven ability to lead and coordinate cross-functional development teams, including delegation and decision-making.
• Strong communication, presentation and moderation skills, with the ability to interact confidently with customers and internal stakeholders.
• Fluent English language skills, both written and spoken.
• Strong negotiation, influencing and problem-solving skills, combined with a structured and solution-oriented approach.
• A proactive, assertive and collaborative mindset with a high sense of responsibility.
